My Grandma's family were Hungarians from Romania. Great-Great Grandpa's name was Irme, Great-Grandpa was Lajos, and Great-Uncle Jim was Emery... Then I found where Uncle Jim baptized most of his kids with Hungarian version of their American names. I was fascinated by the names and looked them up.
Irme (Hungarian)- Emeric/ Emery (Angelized)- James (Americanized) - Jim (Nickname)
Lajos (Hungarian) - Louis (Americanized)
Zsuzsanna (Hungarian) - Susanna (Americanized)
Erzebet (Hungarian) - Elizabeth (Americanized) - Betty (Nickname)
Maria (Hungarian) - Mary (Americanized)
Etelka (Hungarian) - Adela? Though I've seen Ethel listed
Andras (Hungarian) - Andrew (Americanized) - Andy (Nickname)
Jolanda (Hungarian) - Yolanda (Americanized)
Sandor (Hungarian) - Alexander (Americanized)
Poor Cousin John, he was the only one I couldn't find a baptism record for or a Hungarian version of his name that was used.
